The original RHA TrueConnects are some of the best-value true-wireless headphones you can buy. Featuring impressive sound, a good (for the time) battery life of just under a day and a classy look that didn’t simply ape the AirPods, the TruConnects were a good first outing for the British-based RHA brand. Now, the TruConnect 2s have arrived, and they aim to pick up where the originals left off.

What’s different?

The TrueConnect 2s look almost identical to the earbuds they replace, but that’s no bad thing. Finished in matte black, with two microphones on either side to improve call quality, the RHA’s are again clean, functional and very Scandinavian-looking in their execution. Under the surface however, RHA have worked in some key upgrades.

Battery life has nearly doubled, which means you get 44 hours in total. It’s a figure that holds up in practice and comes from 9 hours of life in the earbuds themselves combined with an additional 35 from the carrying case.

And it’s likely you’ll be using the TrueConnect 2’s in more places than the previous earbuds; now IP55-certified, RHA’s true-wireless buds are better at resisting dust and water – making them more gym and jogging-friendly.

Touch-sensitive controls replace the shallow buttons of before, but they’re not as fidgety as you’d expect – and worked first time in all of our use.

The only catch? It’s much easier to pause and play your content by accident when you’re holding them – but it’s unlikely you’re listening to anything in those situations, anyway.

How do they sound?

The TrueConnect 2s deliver an even more refined experience than before, with bass still prominent, but not at the expense of other frequencies. Sound insulation is good if you’re wearing the correct size eartips but the supplied memory foam eartips go one better, blocking out even more unwanted noise. They need to be good though; at this price you’re understandably not getting active noise cancellation.

Verdict

The original TrueConnect earbuds stood apart from the competition with good sound, unique style and impressive battery life. And the TrueConnect 2s take that formula and improve it in every area. However, value remains the TrueConnect ‘s greatest asset. RHA has kept the price at a reasonable £130, so the performance to cost ratio still makes them easy to recommend.
