If you love a good stir-fry or saucy dish, then your kitchen is not complete without a great wok. Woks can come in a variety of different sizes and depths with a multitude of different features, but what makes a wok great?

A wok is so underrated and often forgotten, I’m here to change that. Not only can a wok aid you in making the best stir-fry, but the right wok will also have you ready to ditch your old saucepans and frying pans in a heartbeat. With a wok you can: steam, boil, stew and fry, the possibilities are quite literally endless.

I didn’t know what I was missing in my old wok until I used this one by Progress. Things like the Smartstone non-stick interior and a lid really do change the game, making it versatile for any cooking task.

Everyone needs a wok, even if you don’t know it yet. I’ve already used mine for a wide variety of dishes, from curry to pasta, and I’ve got no complaints.

The review:

One word, obsessed. I may sound crazy if I say a wok changed my life, but it did, somehow. I found myself excited to cook again and try new recipes. More than ever before, I wanted to test and see exactly how much I could push the wok to do. It passed all my tests with flying colours and is a staple in my kitchen now.

So easy to use, the double handles really make a difference, especially when tossing vegetables or stir fry. The ergonomic grip of the handles ensures full stability when handling it whilst hot.

The Smartstone non-stick coating is brilliant, I’ve had non-stick pans before, but this coating beats them all. When making my Thai green curry, I was amazed at how the sauce dripped down the interior sides of the wok with such ease, it was mesmerising.

When making a tomato and feta sauce for my pasta, I was once again amazed by how the wok absorbed none of the oil. Which is amazing as I’m trying to be healthier with my meals, so using less oil is definitely a pro.

Not only is it great to cook with, but it’s also even easier to clean. I’m a firm believer that a wok or pan doesn’t need to be cleaned with washing up liquid. It’s not needed with this pan as all the residue of your cooking simply glides off, a quick rinse with water does the job.

Pros:

• Super easy to clean

• Comes with a glass lid

• Great depth and size for a family of four

• Lightweight and durable

Cons:

• The wooden design on the handles may not be everyone’s cup of tea

Final opinion

For the price, this wok is truly a kitchen essential in any home. It’s so hard to find a wok that comes with a lid that actually fits, let alone one that is this great.

I’ve been able to cook a multitude of different dishes and cuisines; I think I could just about argue that you could use this wok for anything.

This wok is the perfect size for a family of four, enough space for a stir-fry or a curry with plenty of leftovers. It’s also so easy to clean with water and a soft sponge if you really need it, which means there’s no excuse as to why this wok shouldn’t last.
