AmazonBasics Juicer: Review

The AmazonBasics MJ-60JM01B-UK Juicer is kind to your pocket and does what it says on the tin - it juices your fresh fruit smoothly and pretty quietly, too. It has two speed options, most of the parts are dishwasher-safe, and it's easy to use.

Features: Two speed settings Jug size: 1.25 litre 1.5 litre container to catch separated pulp

Our tester, Charlie Calton-Watson, used the AmazonBasics Juicer for a minimum of a week, making juices for herself and her husband, Andy, and their two sons, Arthur and Wilfie. Here are her thoughts:

First Impressions

The juicer is a lot bigger than it looks when you see it online, but it looks quite slick – it’s made from a glossy black plastic with a smooth design. It takes a bit of room up on the kitchen surface, but it's not an eyesore – just bear in mind whether you have enough room for it on show (or in your cupboards). Overall its design is higher end than you'd expect for such a good price.

The instructions were a bit sparse - there's only a couple of pages to get across how to use it, clean it and what fruit it could take. You have to really concentrate to work out what the diagrams mean - although it really is very straightforward to use once you've understood them. To improve this juicer it definitely needs more information, better layout on the suggested recipes, and do's and don'ts.

The Review

The juicer worked well – it got through a whole apple in less than five seconds, and with a large capacity waste area and jug you could get through a lot of fruit in one go.

It's not too noisy either – which is always good, and especially at breakfast time!

The juice was smooth and just what you'd expect.

It operates with a simple two-speed option depending on what you're juicing - hard or soft fruit – and both appeared to work well. Overall it was really satisfying to use; fast and simple and got the job done.

There are several parts to remove to clean it, which is a bit time-consuming, but all of them (bar the sieve) are dishwasher proof so doesn't have to be too onerous. The sieve you have to clean by hand, and because of the texture that's quite tricky to do well (i.e. a rinse under the tap won't remove the debris). That said, the core machine with the parts removed for the dishwasher was really easy to wipe down.

The quality is quite impressive for the price. The design is good and the quietness of the operation gives a sense of a well-made machine that will last. The machine is mostly plastic though so compared to other juicers on the market, that does cheapen it.

The price is really impressive; it comes in cheaper than most other budget offerings (and of course you can spend hundreds if you wish). I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Pros: Easy to use Quiet Budget-friendly Most parts dishwasher-safe Cons: Sieve tricky to clean Instructions not the clearest
