As Games Industry reports, Naughty Dog{ =nofollow}’s The Last Of Us 2 has even beaten the developer’s previous fastest selling title, 2016’s Uncharted 4 on physical sales alone. Digital copies have not yet been counted, but are sure to extend the game’s lead. More impressive for 2020 is that the game’s launch has beaten Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ opening numbers by 40%.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has fallen out of the top ten list for the first time since its launch in March, now placing at number 12. Considering its competition and that it’s been around for a number of months, New Horizons is still and impressive and prevalent title, ranking among the best games on Switch.

The numbers shown in The Last Of Us Part 2 sales are impressive, but not necessarily surprising considering the beloved and lauded 2013 original.

These numbers are likely to hold string, despite the game becoming the latest arena for the bizarre and controversial phenomenon of orchestrated “user score bombing”, with the game receiving “a 3.4/10 score as opposed to its 9.5/10 critical consensus” (via Forbes).
