The Future Of Gaming PS5 events has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 11 at 9 pm BST.
Sid Shuman, Senior Director of SIE Content Communications, posted the announcement on the PlayStation Blog. The reschedule was also shared across PlayStation’s social media outlets to an overwhelmingly positive response.
In addition to resharing CEO Jim Ryan’s blog post, which promised to reveal the next-gen console’s launch games with accompanying gameplay showcases, Shuman offered some advice to those who’ll be tuning in. As the event is pre-recorded and to be streamed via YouTube and Twitch, the broadcast will be limited to 1080p and 30 frames per second.
Perhaps predicting a negative reaction from fans expecting to see pristine 4K graphics, Shuman notes that the resolution “eased the show’s production process during a time when many of our team and developers are working from home. The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”

Shuman also advised that the event is best watched with headphones, as “there’s some cool audio work in the show, and it might be harder to appreciate if it’s pumped through your phone or laptop speakers.” This would suggest that we are finally going to hear a little of what the PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech can do.
This tech was announced months ago in Lead System Architect Mark Cerny’s Road To PS5 presentation, and promises to create a complex layered 3D soundscape that’s much more detailed than a standard object-orientated virtual surround sound system.
Shuman also thanked gamers for their patience and understanding, reiterating once more how it was important for Sony to postpone the June 4 event to allow “key voices [to] be heard during this historic and important time.”
The event was initially taking place on June 4, however, on June 1 the official PlayStation Twitter account tweeted that the reveal had been postponed. This was as a response to the ongoing political upheaval triggered by events in the USA and the worldwide Black Lives Matter protests.
