Fresh products, different look – same great sound? Cambridge Audio is stepping into its next era with a rebrand (and some headphones and an amp to boot).

Known for its high quality hi-fi systems, the company's previous creations have featured among our selection of the best speakers, and we welcome its commitment to stellar tech in attractive packages. Now, it has two more products which it hopes will cement that reputation further: the Melomania A100 earbuds and the Evo 150 SE streaming amplifier.

The Evo 150 SE's dimensions mean that it takes up the same space as a record sleeve. It features a large colour screen (on which to display VU meters, album artwork or a clock) and offers 2 x 150W of Hypex NCOREx Class D amplification. A premium design is consistent with what we've come to expect from Cambridge in general and its immediate predecessor (the Evo 150) in particular. However, 'Audio' has gone from the logo – part of an updated identity which aims to ensure the brand has greater flexibility across products and packaging, in shops and online.

The same goes for the Melomania A100 earbuds. A compact and stylish 'Cambridge'-stamped case contains earphones which we've found during initial testing to be comfortable and competent. The class AB amplification delivers excellent sound while the updated Melomania Connect app allows a more than adequate amount of customisation.

The noise-cancelling functionality is superb and doesn't rely on an unpleasantly claustrophobic in-ear placement. Rather, the earphones are light and suit prolonged wear, with 11 hours of continuous playback on a single charge promised. Music of all genres and podcasts are served well by the impressive degree of technology at play.

Connection via Bluetooth is seamless, as is multipoint connection (to two devices simultaneously). Unfortunately the same can't be said for call quality, where the Melomania A100 earbuds fall short, despite a six-microphone array.

Available now in black or white for £119, they will be appreciated by music lovers seeking new levels of immersion.
