Fancy driving some of the most expensive cars you can buy, around some of the best tracks in the world? Unless you’re a racing driver or multi-millionaire, it’s probably not going to happen – but these racing games are the next best thing. Whether you’re a casual racer or more of a hardcore gamer that fancies themselves as the next Lewis Hamilton, there’s a racing game out there for you, and we’ve selected the best ones on consoles right now. Here’s your guide to the best racing games in 2019 on PS4 and Xbox One.

GT Sport - Best Racing Games

GT Sport (PS4)

Gran Turismo is one of the most popular racing games in the world, and its latest instalment, GT Sport represents a return to form for Sony’s flagship racer. After a shaky start which saw less content than we’d have liked, GT Sport has been constantly updated every month with new cars, tracks and challenges to get stuck into. The game’s online mode also now offers some of the most robust and immersive multiplayer racing you can get. Read the full review on CAR Magazine.

Forza Horizon 4 - Best Racing Games

Forza Horizon 4 (Xbox One)

Over on Microsoft’s Xbox One, Forza Horizon 4 is king. Unlike some of the other games here, Forza Horizon isn’t really about perfecting laps or setting up your car – instead it’s about enjoying supercars and open, leafy roads. Expect road races, time trials and slightly less realism than other racing games here, but just as much arcade-style fun. And more thing, this time Microsoft has set the action in England. As the full CAR magazine review says ‘it is open world racing at it’s best’.

Dirt Rally 2.0 - Best Racing Games

Dirt Rally 2.0

Prefer mud to tarmac, and studded tyres to slicks? Then you’ll love Dirt Rally 2.0. Simply put, DiRT Rally 2.0 is the most complete, detailed off-road game you can buy in 2019. Featuring an impressive range of tracks in various tricky conditions, DiRT 2.0 nails the sensation of taming a car and the elements, too. And there’s a wide range of cars on offer, from Group B classics, to more modern machines. You can read the full CAR Magazine review here.

F1 2018 - Best Racing Games

F1 2018 (PS4 and Xbox One)
From £46.99

The 2019 Formula One season has just begun, but you can still relive last year’s epic struggle between Mercedes and Ferrari with this; F1 2018. Available on both the Xbox One and PS4, F1 2018 is the official game of last season, and therefore features all the drivers, cars and tracks you saw in 2018. Of course, there’s a sprawling career mode, a popular multiplayer mode – and as an extra bonus, the game features classic F1 cars too. According to CAR Magazine it’s the best F1 game you can buy right now.

Assetto Corsa - Best Racing Games

Assetto Corsa (PS4 and Xbox One)
From £26.00

Assetto Corsa might not have the same stunning graphics as the other games on this list – nor a great multiplayer experience – but when it comes to the sensation of driving and coaxing a car around a track, it’s hard to beat. Featuring a limited but perfectly detailed choice of cars and tracks, Assetto Corsa really puts you behind the wheel of some legendary race cars – and you really can feel every bump and kerb.
